Growing up in the 50’s and 60’s gave me the opportunity to learn about cooking, entertaining, and life in general from my mother, grandmother, aunts and friends. It was a time of doing things at home. Opportunities to eat out were very limited. Although Dairy Queen since 1944 and White Castle since 1921 had been around for a while, McDonalds had just opened its doors in 1955 and the only time we had fast food was on our annual trip to my Grandmother’s house in Troy, Kansas a three day trip from our home in Virginia.
Hi, I’m Betti Flitcraft.
My kids tease that I lived in the time or radio…and the first Televisions, stating that I am technologically inept. To redeem myself, and make some new virtual friends I have taken on the challenge to teach myself enough about the internet and how it works to try my hand at a Blog. Over the past 45 years I have been a Realtor, a Television Producer, a Tupperware Consultant, a Paralegal, a wife and mother, Care giver to my parents until their deaths, and in my semi- retirement I am a Pampered Chef Consultant, all favorite careers. I’ve been semi-retired for a while and spend most of my time caring for my grandson, Zachary. For years friends, and family have been telling me that I need to share my entertaining ideas, recipes, cooking tips and life lessons with more people so here goes. Between you and me they want to broaden my audience I do tend to go on.
I’ll be sharing recipes, cooking tips and life’s experiences… The recipes on my blog are written as if you the reader is a beginner cook. I write hoping you will feel I am right there with you as you prepare the dish. Just like it would have been with your grandmother. I try to include lots of tips and suggestions. For you Seasoned Cooks I hope you enjoy the collection of recipes I am sharing and will share some of your own recipes and experiences.
Because entertaining is an art I learned from my mother i will share what she taught me. Married to a military man she was always on call for imprompteu get togethers ordered by the Post Commanders wife. Mom was always the go to hostess because people always boasted about her parties and teas. Her philosophy was that people will have a wonderful time at your home if you feed them good food, make them feel comfortable and relaxed, and join in with them. So with that in mind I will be sharing dinner menus, party planning menus, themes, and planning ideas.
Being a single mom of two for the past 15 +++ years I also have loads of home projects to share that I have done in the past as well as any new ones that come up as do them.
Decorating ideas and don’t forget the kid friendly projects and Kids party planning ideas in the kids category. With six nieces, one nephew, 21 year old son, my 28 year old daughter, her son Zach, and his eleven cousins I am always working on something which involves KIDS; at home it’s projects like fixing the water heater putting in new elements, replacing kitchen faucet, unclogging the toilet – three times, the best way to remove melted wax from the carpet and wall lol, which are a few projects I had to complete from this past month. Having raised a son and a daughter alone I have lots of experience in this running a home department.

I spend a lot of time researching for information on “how to” for different things from time to time and when I find information that may help you I will share that too.
My very first post is for a strawberry topped cheesecake filling cookie crust pizza. It’s a variation on the ones I have had at different peoples parties. I have made it easier to make by using a cakemix cookie base and a fluffy cream cheese layer under the fruit. With this recipe it is a snap to make this impressive fruit dessert.
Like a recipe click on the button and off you’ll go.
Hope ya’ll enjoy yourself here and come back often.
I ask that you forgive any mistakes I may make and that you feel comfortable to share your input with me. Being a grandmother and as my kids always tell me “ancient” and from the time of wind up cars, this is a new and exciting adventure.
until later betti : )
